Rainy Pass Lodge
For those who haven't heard how I got my soon to be summer job out at Rainy Pass Lodge the story goes a little something like this.
It all started when my family and I got into watching a TV show called R5Sons Alaska. The show follows the family that owns Rainy Pass Lodge. As I watched the show I realized the love that I have for this beautiful state we live in. My thought was "That would be so much fun to go visit this lodge and be a guest for the week". Not long after that thought, I checked out the prices for a visit and after seeing them I just laughed at myself, it wasn't gonna happen that way. As I slept on it, the next thing that popped into my head was " I'm sure they need someone to work out there with them, so why not ask". I emailed Steve and Denise (the owners) in mid October. I got a reply asking for me to send them my resume, cover letter, and a recent photo of myself in November.
I have to give the credit to my wonderful teacher Mrs. Perdue, who has been a teacher of mine all four years of High School. She had no problem with me taking her time during one of my classes with her, coming in during lunch, and staying after school to work out the kinks and get my information looking professional. She was such a huge life saver, as I just sat next to her and watched her type all my stuff out and make it perfect! Once we got it finished I sent it off to Steve and Denise in November.
As time went by I was constantly praying for patience as I waited and waited to hear back from Steve and Denise. I was always reminding myself that if it was in Gods plans for me to work at the lodge then it would happen and it would be for Him and His glory.
The second reply came in the first week of January after I had e-mailed them to make sure they got my info. They did! They wanted to meet me in Anchorage sometime soon. So we set up a meeting time/date. I was so nervous about it. I have never met these people but I have seen them on TV just about every week to keep up on their show. Who wouldn't be nervous? I was meeting "TV Stars". The interview day came and we (Mom and I ) met for coffee. It was a piece of cake. The "interview" lasted about an hour. Steve and Denise asked me a few questions about why I wanted to work at the lodge and when I would be able to go out there. After I answered them Steve went on talking to me and my mom about the lodge, like we have known each other for a long time. They told me to email them in March to let them know if I was still interested in working with them and I would hear in April if I got the job or not.
Time went by and when March came I e-mailed. No reply. April rolled around and my patience was thinning, I e-mailed again. Still nothing. So I called them, left a messege and to my dismay they returned my call about half and hour later. Steve and Denise where out and about driving so I was to call them the next day for a phone interview, as they still had to go through other possible summer hires and weed them out. The next day came and Steve wasn't home so I talked to Denise and she said I was at the top of their hire list and she and Steve still needed to talk it over. Denise promised to tell me ASAP if I got the job.
A few days later, after I got to work I checked my e-mails and guess what was waiting for me. Steve and Denise sent me an e-mail that said "call Friday mid-morning we are hiring you for the summer". I was so excited but when I looked at the time it was mid-afternoon. I got the guts and called. Thank God they were home. We talked and that's when I found out I leave between June 12 and June 15.
Well to sum it all up, waiting to hear if you got one of your dream jobs in one of your favorite states in a six month period is a long time. The closer it got to April the more I had to cling to God knowing He had a plan for me and it would all turn out for the better. I can't wait to see what is in store for me at the lodge.
Gotta go PACK!
